Various Roads (Cuxham) Proposed 20mph Speed Limit & Traffic Calming

Oxfordshire County Council is proposing to introduce a 20mph speed limit in the centre of Cuxham village, which is being put forward following road safety concerns raised by local residents. Specifically the proposals comprise of the following measures:

  • Phase 1 of the scheme is to initially introduce a ‘signed only’  20mph speed limit throughout Cuxham village, replacing the existing 30mph speed limit on the main village roads:
    • B480 - from a point 130 metres north of its junction with the road to Brightwell Baldwin, southeast and eastwards for a distance of 683 metres.
    • Unnamed road to Brightwell Baldwin - a) from its junction with B480, south-westwards for a distance of 161 metres, and b) from its junction with Turners Green Lane, eastwards for a distance of 50 metres eastwards.
    • Unnamed road to the Church - from its junction with B480, southwards for a distance of 84 metres.

Depending on the results of phase 1, a second phase of the scheme would see traffic calming measures being introduced as a trial to accompany the signed limit to create a ‘zone’, and these would comprise of the following measures

  • Trial Planters to be located at 7 locations on the B480, and 1 on the road to Brightwell Baldwin, with the effect of reducing the road width to varying degrees,
  • Trial White Posts to be located at 3 locations on the B480, with the effect of warning drivers & protecting vehicles/properties, and
  • Additionally, the road space immediately outside the Public House will be utilised, effectively reducing the road width to 4.8 metres.

* note: The exact position of the traffic calming features can be adjusted following on site discussion with the Parish Council & local residents.

Objections to the proposals and other representations, specifying the grounds on which they are made, may be sent in by completing the online questionnaire, via email or in writing (quoting ref: CM/12.6.186) to the address below by 13 August. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response and they may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet meeting later in 2021 (the Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here). The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.
