B4493 Wantage Road (Didcot) Proposed Cycle Lane Provision

Following a previous consultation for a toucan crossing (a signalled crossing for use by pedestrians & cyclists) and a shared-use cycle-way on the northern footway , details found here: https://consultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk/consult.ti/B4493WantageRoadCrossingCycle/consultationHome

The County Council is now consulting on the proposals to introduce cycle lanes on both sides of the B4493 Wantage Road, which will be separated from the main carriageway by an over-runnable kerb, excepting at junctions and at the zebra crossing.

To accommodate the proposed cycle lanes, the verge on the north side of the road will be removed or narrowed; there will also be in places some narrowing of the verge on the south side of the road. In the vicinity of Abingdon Crescent part of the existing verge on both sides of the road will become cycle track.

Unlike the scheme previously consulted on in May/June 2016, the existing footways will continue to be for pedestrian use only, rather than becoming a shared use footway & cycle track.

Objections to the proposals and other representations, specifying the grounds on which they are made, may be sent in by completing the online questionnaire, via email, or in writing (quoting ref: CM/12.6.189) to the address below by 06 April 2018. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response and they may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet meeting in Oxford on Thursday 10th May 2018. The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.

This consultation has now closed.
