Brasenose/Slade Road & Larch Drive (Didcot) Proposed 20mph Speed Limits & Traffic Calming

Oxfordshire County Council proposes to - for road safety reasons - introduce a 20mph speed limit in place of the current 30mph limit on the residential roads within the Brasenose Road/Slade Road area located in southwest Didcot. The scheme aims to reduce the speed of traffic travelling through the established residential area, also served by local schools and public playing fields, and specifically the changes comprise of the following proposals:

  • replace the existing 30mph speed limit with a 20mph speed limit on the following roads:
    • Brasenose Road, Churchill Close, Churchill Road, Freeman Road, Icknield Close, Merritt Road, Morrells Close, Slade Road, Smiths Farm Lane & Wills Road.
  • Speed Cushions - to be approximately 3.7m long, 1.6m wide and 75mm high (with gradients of 1:8):
    • 12 adjacent pairs along the length of Slade Road & Brasenose Road, and
    • 4 staggered pairs along the length of Churchill Road.
  • Raised tables - with ramps being 1.125m long and 75mm high (with gradients of 1:15), located at:
    • Slade Road at the junction with Churchill Road – to be 30m long, extending 10m into Churchill Road, and
    • Brasenose Road at the northern junction with Churchill Road – to be 40m long, extending 15m into Churchill Road.

Also, as a change to a previous public consultation in November 2019 (see here) it is proposed to extend the 20mph speed limit at Great Western Park so that the outer extent of the 20mph limit will reach Larch Drive at its junction with Park Road.

Objections to the proposals and other representations, specifying the grounds on which they are made, may be sent in by completing the online questionnaire, via email or in writing (quoting ref: CM.12.6.189) to the address below by 30 October 2020. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response and they may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet meeting either later in 2020 or early in 2021. The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.
