Various Roads (Burford) Proposed 20mph Speed Limit & Puffin Crossing

Oxfordshire County Council proposes to reduce the speed limit on the roads within Burford town centre, this is for road safety reasons in response to concerns raised by the Town Council, specifically the proposals will:

  1. introduce a 20mph speed limit throughout the town centre,
  2. make adjustments to the existing 30mph speed limits, including introducing a section along the A40 Oxrford Road, either side of the A361 roundabout junction,
  3. there will also be amendments to the lengths of the existing 40mph speed limits on the approaches to the town, i.e. moving & extending them further outwards.
  4. to construct a Puffin Crossing (a signalised crossing for use by pedestrians) to help improve pedestrian safety in the area:
    • on the A40 Oxford Road - approx. 205* metres south-east of the junction with Tanners Lane. (The existing pedestrian footbridge over the A40 Oxford Road will be demolished)

Objections to the proposals and other representations, specifying the grounds on which they are made, may be sent in by completing the online questionnaire, via email or in writing (quoting ref: CM/12.6.149) to the address below by 21 February 2020. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response and they may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet meeting later in 2020. The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.
