Possible new name for Carers' Personal Budgets

You may be aware that changes to Carers' Personal Budgets in Oxfordshire were agreed by Oxfordshire County Council and Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group in February 2017 following the carers' consultation last year.

Reports produced at the end of the consultation were submitted to the Cabinet meeting on 24 January 2017 ahead of the decisions agreed in February 2017. Please click here if you would like to see this information.

The final decision regarding Carers’ Personal Budgets is that from April 2017, there will be a 'flat rate' payment of £300 available following a Carers' Assessment to those carers who have been assessed as having the highest needs. (Previously, this would have been the carers who received £600 under the current arrangements). This ‘flat rate’ payment of £300 will be jointly and equally funded by Oxfordshire County Council and Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

In addition, some people told us in the consultation that they do not like the use of the current name of ‘Carers' Personal Budgets'. It was felt by some people that these are not 'true' personal budgets and as they are not the same as personal budgets for service users, sometimes causes confusion. One of the actions following the consultation was to collaborate with carers and all interested parties as to whether collectively we could come up with a better name.

Following a week long survey whereby we received 24 responses, we can confirm that the suggested name receiving the most 'votes' was 'carers' personal payment' and this has now been agreed by the senior leadership team as the revised name.

Thank you to everyone who took part and gave us their feedback.

This survey has now closed.
