Denchworth Road & Newlands Drive (Grove) Proposed Speed Limit & Prohibition of Driving RECONSULTATION

Following an earlier consultation carried out in July 2017 (for details click here) regarding the proposals to introduce various traffic improvement measures along Denchworth Road & Newlands Drive in Grove, Oxfordshire County Council is now re-consulting on the proposals due to the expiration of the statutory 2-year period in which to implement the original proposals. The proposals - as a result of the development of land adjacent to Denchworth Road - remain as originally consulted on, and comprise of the following specific measures:

  • To extend the 30mph speed limit (in place of the current unrestricted 60mph limit) on Denchworth Road leading southwards out of Grove, meeting the 30mph at the roundabout junction with Mably Way, and
  • to remove 2 current sections of road from use by motor vehicles only:
    • The north end of Denchworth Road is being realigned slightly to the east to meet with a new Cane Lane T-junction making a section of the north end of the existing Denchworth Road redundant and
    • A new T-junction for Cane Lane is planned slightly to its south making the westernmost end of the existing Cane Lane redundant.
    • There will continue to be rights of way for pedestrians and cyclists on the closed sections of highway.

UPDATE (12/01/2021): the following measures have already been installed and are not now part of the current re-consultation process:

It is also being proposed to construct the following traffic features on Newlands Drive, as detailed below:

  • 6 (six) extended flat top road humps at various side-road junctions, and
  • 4 (four) pairs of speed cushions at intervals along its length.
  • 2 (two) Zebra crossings (for use by pedestrians only) to be located:
    • approx. 34* metres south of its junction with Columbia Way, and
    • approx. 36* metres south of its junction with Savile Way.

All dimensions are approximate, taken from the centre of the junction to the centre of the feature.

Objections to the proposals and other representations, specifying the grounds on which they are made, may be sent in by completing the online questionnaire, via email or in writing (quoting ref: AK/12.6.235) to the address below by 05 February 2021. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response and they may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet meeting early in 2021 (the Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here). The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.

Please read the information provided on this consultation. Your views and opinions matter. Please take the time to respond.
