Various Roads (Oxford) Electric Vehicle & Taxi Charging Points

Oxfordshire County Council (in conjunction with the Oxford City Council 'Sustainable City Team') proposes to introduce eight locations for the placement of electric vehicle chargers delivered under the Oxford Go Ultra Low programme which is being funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles.

A. Four locations are existing charging bays for resident and car club use. These require a different configuration to accommodate new chargers by installing build-out islands. These new chargers will have dual sockets and increase charging facilities by 40%:

  • Southfield Road – a dual socket charger for both a reserved car bay and reserved bay for residents,
  • Stone Street – a reserved car club bay,
  • West Street – an unreserved bay for residents,
  • Wytham Street  – a reserved car club bay and an unreserved charging space for residents.

B. The remaining four charging locations are new locations to install rapid chargers for Taxi and temporary public use*. These chargers will have artwork depicting Oxford scenes:

  • Keble Road – Taxi and temporary public use. A high priority city centre site with excellent artery road access to the North. Lost pay and display bays will be replaced on the opposite site of the road,
  • Old Greyfriar’s Street (Westgate) - Taxi use only, high priority city centre site, right next to the Westgate hackney carriage rank,
  • Rewley Road (Layby) – Taxi and temporary public use. A shortlisted back up site which could be used as an alternative to one of the high priority sites. City centre location with excellent access to Station Rank,
  • Barns Road (Temple Cowley) – Taxi only. A shortlisted back up site which could be used as an alternative to one of the high priority sites. An existing rank, requires removal of two taxi rank bays, which will be replaced with added rank space at another location in the city.

* (If you would like us to consider permanent access for you as a high priority user group, then please let us know at
