Draft Equality Policy and Objectives 2018 - 2022

Introduction

Oxfordshire County Council is refreshing its Equality Policy and Objectives, which sets out the approach we take to make Oxfordshire a fair and more equal to live and work.

It is important that our Equality Policy meets the needs of Oxfordshire’s diverse communities. Please take the time to read the documents provided below and have your say (scroll down to the bottom of this page).

An easy read document has provided and we are keen to meet with any group or organisation to discuss the draft policy during the consultation period.

Equality Act

The council is committed to the principles of equality diversity, fairness and inclusion. As a public authority, we have legal duty under the Equality Act 2012 to:

  • Stop and prevent unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Keep working to improve and promote equal opportunities
  • Encourage and maintain good relationships between people with protected characteristics and those without.

Protected characteristics are: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and/or beliefs, sex and sexual orientation.

Self-assessment

To help us to review and refresh our Equality Policy and develop new draft objectives we have carried out a self-assessment. This has involved talking to a wide range of people, reviewing data and our progress against the current policy. This process has identified some good practice and also highlighted areas where we need to improve. These are reflected in the draft documents.

Please read the information provided on this consultation. Your views and opinions matter. Please take the time to respond.
