Harwell & Chilton Area Proposed Traffic Improvements

This is a formal consultation on Oxfordshire County Councils proposals for a number of safety improvements in the Harwell, Chilton & Hagbourne Hill area as part of the Harwell Link Road & Chilton Interchange schemes, these include the following proposals:

  1. A4185 Newbury Road & Hagbourne Hill (Chilton Interchange) – proposed 30 mph speed limit either side of Chilton roundabout, running west to east on the A4185 Newbury Road and the unnamed road towards Hagbourne Hill,  replacing the existing 40mph and 60mph limits,
  2. Hagbourne Hill – proposed reduction of the 60mph limit to 50mph along Hagbourne Hill to its junction with the A417 London Road,
  3. (new) Harwell Link Road – proposed introduction of a 50mph limit on the new Harwell Link road (under construction with new roundabouts at either end) between the B4493 Didcot Road to the A417 Reading Road,
  4. B4493 Harwell to Didcot Road – proposed 30mph speed limit, removing the existing 40mph limit so as to provide a continuous 30mph limit between the towns.
  5. B4493 Harwell to Didcot Road - To move the start of the width restriction and relocate it 30 metres west of the new roundabout for the Harwell link road east of the A34. This has the effect of directing wide vehicles travelling westwards from Didcot to go south on the new link road to avoid Harwell. This point will also feature traffic calming in the shape of a constructed island with associated narrowing of carriageway (2.1 metres each side)
  6. B4493 Harwell to Didcot Road - proposes to construct a Pegasus crossing, with the centre of the proposed crossing approximately 100 metres east of the new roundabout junction with the Harwell link road.

Comments or objections to the proposals specifying the grounds on which they are made and any other representations may be sent in writing to the address below (CM/2.6.164/197/389/401/243) no later than 27 November 2015. The County Council will consider objections and representations received in response to this Notice. They may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet meeting on 14 January 2016. The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.
