Access to Headington (Oxford) Proposed Side Road Entry Treatments

Project to deliver a package of travel improvements in the Headington area

Access to Headington is a £12.5m package of schemes designed to improve access to major employment, health and education sites in the Headington area. It is also designed to support new housing and jobs in Headington and beyond, without attracting more traffic to the area.

As part of the project Oxfordshire County Council proposes to construct new or amended existing road humps across the side roads at their junctions with the following roads in the Headington area of Oxford:

  • 1) Cherwell Drive - Elms Drive, Ewin Close,
  • 2) Headley Way – Copse Lane, Coniston Avenue, Derwent Avenue, Eden Drive, Snowdon Mede, Cholesbury Grange, Fortnam Close, Franklin Road, Woodlands Road (east),Woodlands Road (west),
  • 3) Old Road – Girdlestone Road,
  • 4) The Slade - Girdlestone Road ,Peat Moors, Slade Close, The Slade service road south of Peat Moors, Wood Farm Road,
  • 5) Windmill Road - St Leonard’s Road, Bateman Street, Langley Close, Margaret Road, Mattock Close, Gathorne Road, Rock Edge.

The road humps will have flat tops approx. 100mm high and ramp gradients of approx. 1:10, and their length will vary between approx. 2 metres to 5 metres.

Additionally it is proposed to construct a flat top hump approx. 100mm high with ramp gradients of approx. 1:10 and a length of approx. 6 metres at the following location:

  • 6) Cherwell Drive service road - approximately 45 metres north west of its junction with Copse Lane.

Objections to the proposals and other representations, specifying the grounds on which they are made, may be sent in writing (quoting ref: CM.12.6.320) to the address below by 08 April 2016. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response and they may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet meeting on 28 April 2016. The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.
