Improving Education Outcomes

A strategic review is being undertaken on how Oxfordshire County Council and key stakeholders, including settings, schools, trusts, Diocesan Authorities and parents can all contribute to further improve education outcomes for young people in Oxfordshire. This review is commissioned by Lucy Butler, Director for Children, Education and Families.

As part of this review, we are keen to gather your views and opinions of the document ‘Improving Education Outcomes – a strategic review’.

Our aim is to develop joint priorities which all stakeholders can support and work towards achieving.

Consultation is essential to develop an effective local school improvement system which is fit for purpose, led by schools and multi-academy trusts, yet with the active engagement of key strategic partners including Oxfordshire County Council.

Please take the time to read the document below and offer your feedback. It lays out the Local Authorities Statutory Duties in relation to ensuring that the education provision in Oxfordshire is strong in both terms of achievement and attainment from the early years through all key stages.

The closing date for responses is 28 February 2020.

A SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis has been undertaken and is a particular area where your comments are invited.

Initial thoughts suggest the following priorities for consideration:

  • Improving the education achievements and attainment for all pupils in Oxfordshire, including those who have been identified as having Special Educational Needs (SEND) or are disadvantaged
  • providing an education for all children and young people
  • developing strategies in supporting a reduction in Permanent and Fixed Term Exclusions
  • supporting strategies which might improve Attendance and Reduce Persistent Absence.

Your suggestions and comments are really important so we can develop the strategic review which we hope will lead to the development of the Oxfordshire County Council Education Strategic Plan 2020/23.

Thank you for taking the time to read and contribute to the consultation process.

Lucy Butler

Director of Children Services
