Oriel Square & Turl Street (Oxford) Access Restriction Amendments

Oxfordshire County Council proposes to further restrict the access through the rising bollards situated in Turl Street near Market Street and in Oriel Square towards Merton Street. As a result of a review of the operation and enforcement of traffic restrictions in the area, it is specifically proposed to remove the following exemptions provided for in the current order:

  • Oriel Square - Motor vehicle, the driver of which is in authorised possession of a key of other device to unlock or otherwise disassemble the traffic barrier in the road.
  • Turl Street - Motor vehicle, the driver or owner of which is from time to time authorised by the Council to use the length of the Turl Street south of its junction with Market Street to gain access to roads other than Turl Street.

* note: Certain limited classes of vehicle are variously authorised by the City Council to proceed through the bollards (some drivers of which have possession of a key or other device) and this will be withdrawn as alternative means of access are available.

Objections to the proposals and other representations, specifying the grounds on which they are made, may be sent in by completing the online questionnaire, via email, or in writing (quoting ref: CM.12.6.320) to the address below by 31 January 2020. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response and they may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet meeting later in 2020. The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.
