Tobacco Cessation Services in Oxfordshire

Welcome to the consultation on what tobacco cessation (stop smoking) services in Oxfordshire will look like in the future. Thank you for taking the time to find out more about it and hopefully, sharing your views on it. Your opinion matters to us.

Please watch the four minute video or read the background information provided on this consultation before answering the questions, this provides further information about the proposed options.

Oxfordshire County Council has made a commitment to make consultation an important part of the way it plans, manages and delivers its services.

We feel it is important that you have a chance to have your say about the services that affect you.

No decision has been made about the future model of stop smoking services. Through the use of consultation exercises we want to give you an opportunity to let us know what your views are, and we will listen to your views and keep you informed.

The Local Stop Smoking Services (LSSS) have been commissioned by Oxfordshire County Council since April 2013, but have been available locally for several years before this (previously commissioned by Primary Care Trusts). Supporting people to stop smoking is one action that can really improve health outcomes.

The current model of services delivered through GP Surgeries and Pharmacies has been in place for several years. The latest data has shown however that people are choosing to access services to successfully quit through, more recently commissioned, community based outreach services than their GP or Pharmacy.

With the levels of smoking in the community now at 11.9% there are new challenges for commissioners, like Oxfordshire County Council, to encourage those who still choose to smoke to quit and to discourage people from starting smoking. This is best done through a combined approach of tobacco control initiatives, communications/engagement and LSSS's that meet peoples’ needs.

Oxfordshire County Council aim to deliver services which meet the needs of local residents and offer quality and value. As such Oxfordshire County Council have put together a short questionnaire based on proposed models of LSSS and would be keen to hear your views, comments and ideas about the future of these services in Oxfordshire.

We look forward to hearing from you.
