Oxfordshire County Council has contracts with providers to deliver Supported Housing services for homeless young people, aged 16 to 24 years of age. There are currently 228 units of accommodation. Young people are provided with a place to live and guidance from professionals around housing related matters, which aims to help them to reach independence. Other support needs are met by professionals working in other services.

In Autumn 2018 we launched a project to look at how we can strengthen our housing and support services for these young people. Current contracts with the existing providers come to an end in March 2020.  New contracts will need to start in April 2020.

Staff who work in this field or support young people who are in supported housing told us their views by answering the survey.  There were 14 questions.

Young people had their own survey.

We want to ensure that the pathway can:

  • Meet demand
  • Support young people with more complex needs
  • Support young people and family members to reconnect where this would lead to better outcomes for the young person
  • Provide alternative accommodation options for young people as their level of support and needs change
  • Minimise evictions from services within the pathway
  • Successfully support young people to move out of the pathway when appropriate
  • Improve the transition between young people and adult services
  • Provide access to support around mental health issues where required
  • Provide access to support around Employment Education and Training where required
  • Provide access to support for young people to help them integrate into the local community, including more intensive support for unaccompanied asylum seeking young people
