Worcester Street / Hythe Bridge Street / George Street (Oxford) Proposed Traffic Management Amendment & Puffin Crosssing

Oxfordshire County Council proposes to change the traffic flow arrangements at the junction of Worcester Street, Hythe Bridge Street & George Street in Oxford city centre. The aim of the proposal is to help reduce congestion on the approaches to the junction and to enhance facilities for both pedestrians and cyclists. This is partly in response to feedback from users of the junction since the junction was reconfigured in 2014.

It is proposed that in the future:

  • Vehicles - will only be able to travel from Hythe Bridge Street to Worcester Street north (and vice versa) and from George Street to Worcester Street south (and vice versa),
  • Cyclists - will continue to be allowed to make all movements at the junction.

* Additionally a new signalised Puffin crossing (for use by pedestrians only) will replace the existing signalised crossing point at the current junction layout on Worcester Street; north of the junction with George Street and Hythe Bridge Street.

Objections to the proposals and other representations, specifying the grounds on which they are made, may be sent in by completing the online questionnaire, via email or in writing (quoting ref: CM.12.6.320) to the address below by 08 June 2018. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response and they may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public.

Any unresolved objections will be reported to the Council’s Cabinet Members meeting on Thursday 12th July in Oxford. The papers for the meeting will be available on the County Council’s website about a week before the meeting.
