Proposed new model for Children's Services in Oxfordshire

Children’s services consultation

Thank you to all who have taken the time to respond to the consultation on a new model of children’s services for Oxfordshire. The consultation closed 10 January 2016.

On 23 February 2016 the county council’s cabinet approved the proposals for a new model of children’s services for Oxfordshire. The decision took into account the findings of the consultation alongside a wide range of other information including financial information, analysis of risk and the service and community impact assessment. The proposal documents include details of the amendments made to the proposals having listened to feedback during the consultation with service users.

On 16 February 2016 the council agreed a series of planned amendments to the budget that had been proposed by the authority’s cabinet in January.

Read the press release on the budget arrangements.

The main outcome from the budget decisions that affect the new arrangements for children’s services was that a total of £2m of savings relating to early intervention hubs and children’s centres will now not take place. An original £6m saving on early intervention hubs and children’s centres - agreed by the council at the annual budget meeting in February 2015 - will still take place.

No decisions have been taken at this stage on how this £2m will be spent, but it will be used to ensure both in terms of service and geography that the needs of the children of Oxfordshire are met. It was agreed by Cabinet on 23 February that use of the £2m would be brought back to Cabinet for decision.  Political Group Leaders will have the opportunity to consider this in advance of proposals going to Cabinet.

Conversations are also continuing with communities across the county to see open access sessions continue.

 This consultation has now closed.
