Improvements to Featherbed Lane and Steventon A4130 Junction

We are seeking views on the outline designs to make improvements to Featherbed Lane, including the junctions at either end with the A4130 and A417, and to make improvements with the Steventon A4130 junction.  These schemes are intended to improve journeys between Wantage, Milton Park and Didcot.  Details of the schemes including plans can be found in the questionnaire.

These schemes form part of the council’s Science Vale Area Transport Strategy, as set out in Local Transport Plan 2030. They are identified as key infrastructure in the Vale of White Horse District Council’s emerging Local Plan to support the proposed growth.

Under the county council’s ‘Connecting Oxfordshire’ transport vision these schemes aim to support growth and attract new business investment.

About Science Vale and the Enterprise Zone

Science Vale covers the localities of Didcot, Wantage, Grove, and employment centres of Culham Science Centre, Milton Park and Harwell Oxford Campus.

At the core of the Science Vale growth area is the Enterprise Zone, which seeks to provide an additional 8,000 jobs by 2015.

Progressing the design and scheme implementation
  • The scheme plans shown here are outline designs.  Following this consultation we will consider the comments received and use them to inform the detailed design stage.
  • The final proposed scheme designs will be taken to a Cabinet Member for the Environment’s Delegated Decisions meeting for approval to progress. The required Traffic Regulation Orders will be published and any objections received will also be considered by at the Cabinet Member for the Environment’s Delegated Decisions.
  • If the schemes receive the necessary approvals we plan to start construction in 2015.

How will these schemes be funded?

Central Government are contributing to the funding of these schemes and many others across the county, through Oxfordshire City Deal. The remainder is funded from the County Council and Local Enterprise Partnership.

Other schemes

We are also seeking views at this time on a scheme to construct a new road between B4493 and A417 (Harwell Link Road) and to make improvements to the Hagbourne Hill road.  These schemes are part of a package of transport measures in the Science Vale area, which can be seen in the first of the pdf documents listed below.
